To test the functions of the installation, an I/O test for the joysticks and the valve controllers was performed. One of the problems was the incorrect wiring of the analogue output cards, resulting in the signal being sent to the valve incorrectly. After the problems were solved, the functions of the three winches could be tested.
Except for the winch control, the settings for the valve controllers had to be modifi ed too. The parameters for “ramp up” and “ramp down” were set and the parameters for the proportional gain adjusted.

Vessels and auxiliary equipment in the off shore industry are becoming larger and larger and therefore require greater capacities. However, space is a scarcity on board. A hydraulic powerpack can be an alternative for large electro technical components. But the installation does not only require knowledge of hydraulic drives. For safety reasons the powerpack is connected to a complex automated operating system. De functions of a powerpack on a Boskalis Off shore pontoon, assembled by regrouping existing components, had to be adjusted within fi ve days, as did the settings for the valve controllers. Hycos partnered with itsme Industrial Automation for the commissioning of Simatic PLC software used to operate the three winches on the Boskalis pontoon. The existing remote control had insuffi cient features to control the winches, thus needed to be amplifi ed.
